Clifford has been active in the international film and television industry as a Voice, Language and Dialect Coach for over thirty years, as his IMDb credits will attest. His work field has ranged from low-budget independents to Hollywood blockbusters to acclaimed television dramas.
Clifford is also in demand at international film festivals and acting schools, sharing his experience and expertise with established and up-and-coming film professionals and actors in the form of Masterclasses and practical workshops.
Clifford graduated with a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Oxford University in 1979. After a spell in the Civil Service where he acquired very useful copy editing and proofreading skills, he trained and worked for five years as a teacher of English as a Second Language. During his time teaching English abroad, he acquired fluency in French and German and developed his skills in translation, interpreting, stagecraft and classical singing.
Since completing the Advanced Diploma in Voice Studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama in 1988, he has been in demand for his combination of skills and experience, which give him a unique insight into the spoken and written language, a broad cultural perspective and a flexible and practical approach to working with actors, singers, screenwriters, directors and producers.
Clifford has worked as a Voice and Dialect Coach with some of the most prominent producers, directors and actors in film, television and theatre, including Gerard Depardieu, Willem Dafoe, Heath Ledger, Elizabeth McGovern, Kevin Bacon, Adrien Brody, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rebecca Ferguson, Mads Mikkelsen, Dwayne Johnson, Peter Brook, Steven Spielberg, Peter Webber, Fernando Meirelles… to name just a few.
